Overview

The Pier 27 development site is located at the centre of Toronto’s waterfront. The art site is the primary, north/south oriented public space on the project site. Framed, to the east and west by townhouses, with cantilevered living space soaring over the space, this dynamic site provides framed views of Lake Ontario and Toronto Islands to the south and of the City skyline to the north. Materials: powder coated aluminum, landscape materials (earth, sod, granite, lighting).

Goals

Activation of the public space was the underpinning of this project. The existing, linear, space was reconsidered as a connection between the water’s edge promenade, to the south, and with Queen’s Quay Boulevard and the Martin Goodman bicycle/pedestrian trail to the north.

Process

Public art consultant: oversight of project from artist procurement (competition) through installation. Liaise between artist, client, design consultant team.
