Overview

Fourteen identical sculptures, infused with computer synchronized kinetic lighting, sited on the second story of the El Paso Civic Center create an elevated pedestrian promenade circling the civic center. The building (circa 1964) provides an existing canvas for the reflection of the modulating light which emanates from the work of art which subtly shifts in brilliant color. Aluminum, computer-synchronized light; 14 sculptures, 18’H x 6’D x 6’W each.

Goals

The goal of this project was to create a distinctive, illuminated sculptural work for the El Paso Civic Center which worked with the existing architecture. The resulting artwork Grygutis created enhances the facade in a timeless, enduring, and adaptable way. Recently in 2020, the lighting was updated and is currently blue and white to suit the needs of the civic center. Previously it has been illuminated in a variety of colors spanning the spectrum.
