Profile Type: artist
Jim Nickel studied philosophy and classical languages as a seminarian, attended and taught 3D design at Washington University, has been a visiting artist in the New York State school system, and has maintained a studio in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Photography, printmaking, painting, and sculpture are the major media. His Chair Series and black and white "Venture Series" sculptures, inspired by stark commercial logos and cautionary street markings, codify the pressures and regimentation of contemporary life while formulating their ultimate resolution. Work has appeared in New York City outdoor venues and galleries and is represented by Atrium Gallery in St. Louis.
